The Iranian private sector is also coming to the aid of thousands of people who have been severely hit by flash floods in northern Iran, providing them with food and other necessary items.

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) has allocated more than US $7,000 in emergency funding for the local chamber of commerce in the northern Gorgan Province, where the floods started first and left a trail of destruction behind.

Gorgan Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (GCCIMA) is distributing food to 20,000 people in this northern province that’s been hit the hardest by severe floods.

Also, the ICCIMA, that represents the Iranian private sector, has called on the economic operators to dispatch their non-cash humanitarian aid to Gorgan Chamber of Commerce.

Much of Iran, except for several provinces, has been inundated in recent days. Nearly two dozen people have been killed so far. Majority of the fatalities took place in the southern city of Shiraz, provincial capital of Fars, where 19 people lost their lives in the deluge that has left huge destruction as well.

The downpours have marred the New Year holidays when millions of people travel across the country to celebrate Nowruz (the Iranian/Persian New Year).
