Iran parliament has banned advertisement of foreign products for which there is a similiar Iranian brand in a bid to foster its domestic production in the face of unilateral US sanctions, state news agency IRNA reports.

The ban is applied to all kinds of advertisement for such foreign products that are run on the state TV, newspapers, other media, on the Internet as well as the bulletin borads across the country.

The bill, which focuses on maximum use of indigenous product capacity, was passed into a law by 165 votes in favour and 6 against.

However, foreign products, which are partly produced in Iran under the supervision of the country's Ministry of Indudstry, Trade, Mine are not included in the new law.

The laws also obliges the state organisations to buy Iranian products. Iran's leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, called the current Iranian year which started on March 21, 2018, the year of 'support for Iranian products.'

The unilateral US sanctions that were imposed once again on Iran 5 Novemeber after President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the international nuclear treaty, has hampered vital commodities imports as well as foreign products. Tehran is looking to improve domestic production in a bid to decrease its reliance on foreign imports.
