Iran to launch 2 air taxi services by March 2020

The establishment of short flights between Iranian provinces is aimed at making flights more accessible for the Iranian middle-class as well as using the potential of small airports in the country that can’t receive large planes.

Iran is set to introduce air taxi services before the current fiscal year ends in March 2020, a deputy roads minister says.

“Before the current Iranian year comes to an end, we are set to introduce air taxi services,” Shahram Adamnejad, Deputy for Transport Affairs has been quoted as saying by the local media.

According to Adamnejad, the services will cover at least two areas. He did not elaborate, Financial Tribune reports.

Whether the services will be operated by a private company or a government entity has not been decided yet.

An air taxi is a small commercial aircraft that makes short flights on demand.

The Civil Aviation Organisation of Iran (CAO) President Ali Abdezade said the ari taxi services are expected to be carried out by 100 ultra-light airplanes that weigh less that 570 kg.  

The move aims at making flights more accessible for the Iranian middle-class.
