Iran’s most modern CIP terminal Salam opens to transit 5m passengers a year

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has inaugurated the country’s huge and most modern airport terminal, called Salam, at the international Imam Khomeini Airport in a bid to increase the capacity of managing up to five million passengers per year.

Rouhani was accompanied by Roads and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami to open the terminal-gallery early Tuesday. He called the project a sing of "new economic and social movement", saying its has been opened despite all the pressures by "enemies".

Rouhani said his government plans to renovate the country's civil aviations although several plane makers failed to deliver aircraft to Iran. 

The denomination “terminal-gallery” is due to the fact that the terminal has been decorated by the finest works of Iranian artists.

Salam Terminal has been designed, developed and constructed by Iranian engineers.

Built on a a 55-000-sq-km land, the three-storey terminal has the ability to host all kinds of aircraft because it is equipped by the most state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure.

One of the terminal’s main features is Open Counter, that is, there won’t be any queues as passengers can check in at any of the counters and get their passing board.

Salam is slated to be Iran’s most modern CIP (Commercial Important Person) terminals that offers easiest and most comfortable way of air-travel.

Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) currently has a passenger capacity of around five million per year. However, in the fiscal 2017-18, the airport hosted over nine million passengers, according to the Financial Tribune.

Operated by Iran Airports Company, IKIA is located 30 kilometers southwest of Iran's capital city Tehran.

IKIA has the biggest share of international flights operated in Iran and Mehrabad the biggest in terms of domestic ones.

The Salam Terminal is supposed to host overnight domestic flights that can’t land in Mehrabad Airport due to its proximity to residential areas.
