Iran Chamber of Commerce has urged Italy’s new ambassador to take further steps in promoting bilateral trade.

“We expect the Italian government and embassy in Iran to take more steps in a bid to have positive effect on bilateral and mutual relations and cooperation between Iran and Italy,” said Gholam Hossein Shafei, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) on Sunday.

Speaking at Iran-Italy Joint Chamber of Commerce General Assembly, Shafei stressed that the two countries’ bilateral política and regional cooperation be coordinated better.

He added that the Iran private sector’s parliament is prepared to take every measure to help this cooperation.

“Last year, we saw the biggest number of mutual visits by Iranian and Italian delegations. These visits included high-level officials as well, meaning Iran-Italy ties are special,” Shafei mentioned.

New Italian Ambassador to Iran Giuseppe Perrone stressed “extensive cooperation opportunities” between the two countries.

“In fact, the activities of Iran-Italy Joint Chamber of Commerce show that there is high interest for bilateral cooperation and based on existing data, Italy is one of Iran’s important trade partners,” said Perrone.

“Taking into account the pressure of sanctions, we have to know that we are in a special situation. That is, governments and the private sector have more responsibilities,” he added.

The envoy noted that both countries need to find new ways to strengthen relations.
