Syria’s priority in the reconstruction era is to attract investment from Iran, said a senior Syrian official on Sunday as Damascus has devised a new investment plan to lure foreign investors.

“Our priority is to attract investment from Iran as we are reconstructing the country. And in this regard, the priority is with those that import Iranian goods,” said Rania Ahmad, Assistant Minister of Economy for Economic Development and International Economic Relations on Sunday, addressing a forum in Damascus about investment opportunities in the Arab country.

Syria is seeking to neutralise the sanctions and the effects of war, she mentioned.

Iran is also trying to be the main partner in Syria’s reconstruction era. The two countries are planning to set up three joint factories on baby formula, anti-cancer pharmaceuticals and car production.

Back in January, an Iranian private sector delegation visited Syria in a bid to survey the Syrian market, offering Iranian services for the Arab nation.
