Iran’s private sector has called for opening of road transit between Iran and Syria in a bid to further facilitate bilateral trade as Damascus looks for foreign investors and economic operators.
“The road transport can be a turning point in bilateral exchanges that need to be done by both countries’ authorities,” said Keyvan Kashefi, president of Iran-Syria Joint Economic Committee in Damascus last week.
He made the remark in a meeting with Syrian economic operators from public and private sectors.
Also, Iran’s Roads and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami said the Iranian businesses are ready to help reconstruct Syria.
Meanwhile, Syria’s Economy Minister Samer al-Khalil stressed that both countries need to lift tariffs on their exported goods.
He called for establishment of a joint bank, insurance company and money exchange shops to facilitate trade in the wake of US sanctions.
