Referring to 370 kilometers of joint borders between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic and many political and cultural common grounds, Chairman of Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce Hossein Pirmoazzen on Saturday urged the need for Iran to boost relations with Azerbaijan.

Speaking during a meeting on reviewing economic and trade cooperation between Iran and the Caucasus region and Russia, Pirmoazzen said that this region is a big economic market for Iran.

He also referred to the top priority of Iranian government under President Ebrahim Raeisi to promote relations with neighboring countries, calling on the Iranian officials to focus on expansion of ties with the Caucasus region.

Pirmoazzen noted that expansion of Iran’s bilateral trade with Azerbaijan would lead to economic growth of both countries.

He put bilateral trade between Iran and Azerbaijan at $390 million with $351 million of which being Iran’s exports to the Caucasus country and the rest $39 million being Azerbaijan’s exports to Iran.

Iran is the third trade partner of Azerbaijan and the eighth biggest supplier of goods for the country, PirMoazzen said.

He added that transit position is Azerbaijan’s second main source of revenue after oil and gas, a key part of which is shared by Iran in the North-South corridor.
