Shafei, who was president of Iran Chamber of Commerce until Saturday, won the majority of votes to remain in his position as president of the Iranian private sector parliament.
For the first time in the history of the last eight elections of Iran’s private sector parliament, voting was held electronically. The Coalition for Future won all the 40 seats up for grabs at Tehran Chamber of Commerce while A Chamber for All Coalition won the majority of seats in local chambers of commerce.
Members of all 34 chambers of commerce across Iran are taking to the polls to elect 535 members that will make up the ninth parliament of private sector.
