Private sectors of Iran and Mauritius signed a cooperation document as a trade delegation from the African country is visiting Iran.
The document was signed during a business forum of Iran and Mauritius which was held at the headquarters of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) on Saturday.
The Iran Chamber of Commerce Secretary-General Mojtaba Modarresszadeh signed the document on the Iranian side with his Mauritius counterpart Yousouf Ismael signing the document for Mauritius.
Speaking during the business forum, the Iran Chamber of Commerce President Gholam Hossein Shafei said that Iran is determined to ensure further access to the 1.2-biollion-people market of Africa for Iranian traders.
He said that Iran’s special geopolitical position in the West Asian region and its access to the 400-million-people market of the region provides a proper chance for the Mauritius traders and companies.
Noting that the volume of bilateral trade between Iran and Mauritius is too low in spite of abundant capacities, Shafei noted that the two countries have to identify the hurdles on the way of economic cooperation and take new steps.

In the meantime, Secretary-General of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce Yousouf Ismael said that his country can facilitate Iran’s trade exchanges with African countries.
He said that Mauritius has had as few as $500,000 of exports to Iran over the past five years while its imports from Iran has not gone beyond $300,000 as well.
Mauritius is determined to change the level of trade with Iran; that’s why a big trade delegation has travelled to Tehran, Yousouf said.
Also addressing the business forum, Head of Iran-East Africa Joint Chamber of Commerce Masoud Barahman, said that Iran enjoys a special position in tourism area.
Noting that Iran is the 10th biggest world country in ecotourism and the 7th world country in cultural heritage tourism, he said that there is a big potential for cooperation in this area.
Referring to a wide range of transportation and monetary and banking problems hindering Iran’s trade with African countries, Mauritius in particular, Barahman said that the Iran-East Africa Joint Chamber of Commerce has drafted a mutual trade plan for helping trade between the two countries.
He expressed hope that this business forum would pave the way for implementing this trade plan.
