Masoud Pezeshkian won the majority of votes in the run-off election on Friday to be elected Iran’s new president.
He secured 16,384,403 votes out of the total 30,530,157 votes cast, well above his rival Saeed Jalili who finished with 13, 538,179 votes.
In the first round of the elections last week, none of the candidates received the 50%+1 of the votes to win the presidential race and the first two candidates went to the run-off.
Iran’s early presidential election was aimed to choose a successor for late President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash in May.
