A business delegation from Iran Chamber of Commerce will travel to Syria on Monday to ink new agreements and boost Iranian investment in the post-war country.
The group will accompany First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri who is heading to the Arab country to consolidate Iran’s political and economic support as Damascus looks to rebuild following eight years of war.
Keyvan Kashefi, head of the Joint Economic Committee between Iran and Syria at Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) as well as Hossein Pir Moazzen, his deputy are among the delegation members.
Representatives from Iran's plastic and polymer, home appliances, foodstuffs and textile producers will go to Damascus to give further boost to their exports to Syria. A Syrian-Iranian business forum is also on the agenda.
Iran and Syria’s annual trade volume stands at 200 million dollars, the most of which is made up of Iranian exports to the Arab nation, according to Kashefi.
Iran and Syria are expected to finally sign a joint strategic economic cooperation agreement, whose text was ratified during a recent visit by Syria’s Economy and Foreign Trade Minister, Mohammed Samer al-Khalil to Iran last December.
It’s also expected that a economic committee start work at the country’s Chamber of Commerce. The committee will pave the way for a future joint chamber of commerce between Syria and Iran.
