Japan is analyzing the impact of US sanctions on Iran, which aim to cut Tehran’s oil exports out of the market, and will talk with Washington and other nations to avoid Japanese firms being adversely affected, Suga was quoted as saying, Reuters reported.
On May 8, US President Donald Trump withdrew his country from the JCPOA under pretext of Iran's non-commitment to the deal and its alleged support for terrorism. He also vowed to reinstate sanctions on Iran.
Russia, China and other members of the G5+1 while criticizing the US exit announced they would remain in the deal. Iran has set a deadline for Europe to find suitable ways to save the deal.
The Trump administration is pushing US allies to cut their oil imports from Iran to zero by November.
A senior State Department official earlier said that US officials were visiting European and Asian countries to say they should completely eliminate their oil imports from Iran before the grace period expires on November 4.
The official said that the US doesn't intend to issue waivers.
The US is working with other Middle East countries to increase production so the global oil supply isn't harmed, he added.
