President of Iran-Oman Joint Chamber of Commerce says all Omani ports are open to Iranian ships, denying reports that some cargo vessels couldn’t dock at the Persian Gulf country’s ports.
“Oman ports receive all Iranian ships and commodities despite unilateral US sanctions,” said Mohsen Zarrbi in an interview with Iran Chamber Newsroom.
Several months ago, Sohar Port and Freezone, operated jointly with the Port of Rotterdam, imposed restrictions on Iranian vessels following the US sanctions that took effect 5 November.
Zarrabi has confirmed those restrictions but says they have been all removed by now. “After those measures at Sohar, permissions were sought for two large wholesale cargos to carry the commodities that have not been sanctioned,” added Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce president, adding that container ships operated by an Iranian company have resumed their voyages to the Sohar Port.
Another Iranian company is actively delivering cargo to the same port departing from Iran’s south-western Port of Khorramshahr, according to Zarrabi.
Iran, Oman enjoy warm and friendly relations. The two countries have further expanded political and economic cooperation in recent years. Earlier this month, a fourth direct shipping line was launched between southern Iranian port of Jask to Oman’s Al Suwaiq Port.
The move is aimed at giving more impuls to their bilateral trade which has seen a sharp rise of more than 100% during the past eight months (April-November) compared to the same period last year, according to the chair of Iran-Oman joint Chamber of Commerce.
