Iranian minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Fatemi Amin recently visited the UAE and Oman in southern Persian Gulf as the administration of President Ebrahim Raeisi has openly announced it is seeking to expand relations with neighboring and regional countries.
On the first leg of his tour, the Iranian minister visited the UAE on February 6-8.
During his stay in Dubai, Fatemi Amin toured Expo 2020 Dubai where he visited pavilions of Russia, the UAE, Qatar and Palestine.
B2B meetings were reportedly held between Iranian businesspersons and their UAE counterparts in Dubai and online trade meetings have also been scheduled for the future.
During the visit to UAE by the Iranian minister, some 100 businesses that were eager for activity in the UAE market, were introduced to the UAE officials and economic activists. Fatemi Amin also promised to follow up the problems and challenges of the Iranian businesspersons in the UAE.
As another part of the visit to UAE by the Iranian delegation, a trade meeting of Iranian and UAE businesspersons was also held which is deemed to be as the first practical measure for activating Iran’s trade center in the UAE.
Fatemi Amin’s regional tour then took him to the Sultanate of Oman where he visited with some top-ranking officials from the country.
During a meeting in Muscat on Wednesday with Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Qais Al Yousef, the Iranian minister said the Iranian government will pursue an agreement with Oman to allow preferential trade with the Arab country to start in the near future.
The Iranian official insisted that a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Iran and Oman will significantly boost economic and trade ties between the two friendly nations.
He said that one of his senior deputies will organize and chair expert-level meetings with Omani authorities to discuss a potential deal and the list of products that could be covered by it.
Under a PTA, countries allow certain products to enjoy preferential trade access such as by reducing or removing tariffs.
The 19th Iran-Oman Joint Cooperation Commission also convened during which the two sides signed 10 MoUs on different areas including, standard, customs, trade, transportation and sports.
