A total of 14 cooperation documents were signed between Iran and Qatar in Doha on Monday including a deal on cancelling visa requirements for passengers travelling between the two countries.
The documents were signed by Iranian ministers of Foreign Affairs, Petroleum, Road and Urban Development, Cultural Heritage, and Energy with their Qatari counterparts on the sidelines of a meeting etween Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
President Raeisi arrived in Doha earlier in the day to participate in a Summit of heads of state of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Raeisi’s visit to Qatar is the first by an Iranian president to the Persian Gulf country in more than decade.
The documents signed between the two sides covered different areas of cooperation, including, trade, sea and air transportation, visa cancellation, standard, electricity, culture and education.
Iran and Qatar have enjoyed booming economic and political ties since mid-2017 when Iran offered its full support for Qatar when the Arab country came under a blockade by Saudi Arabia and several other countries in the region.
The two countries share the world’s largest gas reserve in the Persian Gulf. Collective output from the field has reached nearly 1.4 billion cubic meters per day in recent years, according to figures provided by the governments of Iran and Qatar.
