A Nigerian trade-political delegation headed by the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama will visit Iran for talks with top Iranian officials.
According to the International Affairs Department of the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the delegation is slated to arrive in Tehran on June 7.
It is scheduled to meet top Iranian officials including the first Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, Trade Minister Reza Fatemi Amin and speaker of Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
Facilitating trade exchanges between Iran and Nigeria, boosting bilateral trade and concluding trade agreements will top the agenda of the negotiations in Tehran.
During the visit, the Nigerian trade delegation will have face to face meetings with Iranian businessmen to discuss ways to tackle obstacles impeding business between the private sectors of the two countries.
Also at the end of the visit, several documents and memorandums of cooperation will be signed between Iran and Nigeria by Fatemi Amin and Onyeama.
The trip comes in line with Iran’s plan to develop trade ties with African countries. The agreements are expected to dramatically increase bilateral trade between Iran and Nigeria within a short period of time.
Nigeria is one of Iran's four top trading partners in Africa. Earlier, Director General of the Arab-African Office of the Trade Development Organization of Iran Farzad Piltan underscored the need to increase efforts to expand exports to Nigeria in the post-COVID situation.
"The value of Iran's exports to Nigeria in the first ten months of the year 1400 (Persian calendar year which ended on March 20) was close to $86 million, which shows a 644% growth compared to the same period last year," Piltan noted.
