Iran exported some $113 million worth of textile products in the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20), according to an official with the knowledge of the issue.
Majid Nami, the deputy chairman of Iran Textile Exporters and Manufacturers Association, was quoted as IRNA news agency on Monday that Iraq was the main importer of Iranian textile product over the one-year period.
He also said that Afghanistan, and Central Asian and Persian Gulf countries are other export destinations for Iranian textile products.
Noting that the country had exported some $70 million worth of textile products a year earlier, Nami said that the country’s exports in the year under review show a significant year-on-year increase.
Referring to the negative impacts of the sanctions on the Iranian economy, he said that Iranian producers receive raw materials and machinery at higher costs compared to foreign producers in rival country.
He urged the need for more government support for private sector producers.
