President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei said on Saturday that Iran can use the potential of a free trade agreements between Mauritius and China and India for boosting multilateral cooperation.
Shafei made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with Mauritius Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training, Soodesh Satkam Callichurn.
Underlining the significance of further enhancement of relations with African nations, the Iran Chamber of Commerce president said that Mauritius enjoys free trade agreements with different countries and has a peaceful foreign policy that provides the ground for promotion of trade cooperation with this country.
Iran and Mauritius have had good relations over the past decades which have yet to be further expanded, Shafei said.
He added that tourism, transportation, agriculture and SMEs are major fields for cooperation between the two countries that need to be paid special attention by the private sectors of both sides.
In the meantime, the Mauritius minister referred to cordial relations between Iran and Mauritius which dates back to 1971 and noted that it is now the time for these relations to further promote in different areas.
Noting that his country relies on agriculture, he said that it is possible for Iran and Mauritius to engage in multilateral cooperation in this area.
Callichurn believed that production and exports of sugar and cloths are among the main areas in which economic activists from both countries can actively participate.
He also said that there are good chances for cooperation in tourism area although tourism activities have been facing big challenges due to the outbreak of COVID-19 over the past few years.
