President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin have expressed satisfaction over a new mechanism in which Iran and Russia are trading in national currencies.
Speaking to Iran Chamber of Commerce newsroom on the sidelines of a visit to Iran by a major Russian delegation, he said that dispatching such a big trade delegation to Iran has been unprecedented over the past 100 years.
Katyrin said that he and his Iranian counterpart Gholam Hossein Shafei have discussed two major issues: firstly banking exchanges and secondly transportation.
He noted that the central banks of both Iran and Russia have to further cooperate to find a solution to these problems.
He underlined the significance of trading in national currencies as a means of removing the hurdles on the way of trade between Iran and Russia.
Katyrin headed a 120-member Russian delegation to Iran in mid-November when an Iran-Russia business forum was held.
An Iran-Russia business forum is held in Tehran, Iran on November 15, 2022.
Addressing the business forum, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei said that expansion of trade relations between Tehran and Moscow requires more enhanced banking relations and transportation means.
He underlined the need for taking further steps to give a boost to bilateral trade and ease visa requirements in this regard.
A preferential trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union opened a new chapter in Iran’s trade relations with this bloc, Shafei said, adding that the two sides are also finalizing a free trade agreement which will lift major hurdles on the way of trade exchanges.
Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) also plans to send a major trade delegation to the Russian capital on December 18.
