Some eight new vessels have been added to the fleet of Khazar Sea Shipping Lines so as to increase the exports capacity of Iranian northern ports at the Caspian Sea and promote the transit route to Russia.
Khazar Sea Shipping Lines, affiliated to national maritime carrier, the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL) Group, is expanding its fleet despite the US unilateral sanctions on Iran which have also been targeting IRISL.
The shipping line has purchased four new vessels and placed orders for four new general cargo and container ones.
The move will leave part of Iran’s restrictions in shipping to Caspian Sea littoral countries, Russia in particular.
Russia has recently added three ports to the destinations of Iranian shipments to the country.
