Iran’s Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said on Saturday that the country is hit by an eighth wave of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Referring to the increase in outpatient visits to the hospitals, the minister urged the Iranian people to inject vaccines to contain the spread of the virus.
Einollahi said that those who have been vaccinated more than six months ago have to go to health centers for re-injection.
He also called on those with underlying diseases or old age to inject their next dose of the COVID vaccine.
The minister also urged the need for all Iranian people to wear masks when attending family get-togethers in Iranian New Year holidays.
13 Iranian cities are color-coded as red or at extremely high COVID risk, according to the latest update by the Ministry of Health.
It also said that high-risk cities coded as orange also have spiked to 48.
