Iran is resolved to contribute to reviving Syria’s agricultural area, according to a person with the knowledge of the matter.
In an exclusive interview with Iran Chamber of Commerce newsroom, Hassan Shemshadi, the secretary of Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce, said that Syria used to be a main hub of agriculture and animal husbandry among Arab League countries and in the whole region before the war erupted in the country.
Noting that the war has destroyed Syria’s agricultural infrastructure, he said that it requires some 16 to 17 billion dollars to reconstruct this sector.
The Syrian government has always stressed the urgency of providing the food security of the its people, Shemshadi said, adding that mechanization of agricultural and animal husbandry industries, honey bee farming and fish farming are top on the agenda of the Syrian government.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has reserved a pavilion in an international agricultural exhibition which is due to be held in Damascus in late September, Shemshadi said.
Iran will showcase its potentials in the area of agriculture and related industries in the exhibition, he added.
