Foreign trucks have started carrying out direct travels into Iran from two joint borders between Iran and Turkmenistan over the past few days, according to a local official at the bordering province of Khorasan Razavi.
Nasir Baradaran, a senior official at a local office of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization at Khorasan Razavi Province, said that the foreign transits into Iran from Turkmenistan are no longer transshipped.
He said that the inbound trucks are majorly heading to Turkey.
The official said that the Iranian transit companies will also be able to send cargos to Turkmenistan without any need for transshipment at the joint border as of late October.
Transit of goods between Iran and Turkmenistan used to be carried in this way, but the borders were shut during the pandemic and after that Turkmenistan used the transshipment mechanism.
