Some $434 million worth of non-oil goods were exported from Iran to 38 different African countries in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 – October 22), according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.
Rouhollah Latifi, the spokesman for the Trade Promotion Commission of Iran’s House of Industry, Mine and Trade, said that Iran’s exports to Africa in the seven-month period showed a 33 and 53 percent year-on-year decline in terms of tonnage and value respectively.
The official also added that Iran imported 38,122 metric tons (mt) of goods valued at $47.4 million from 19 different African countries in the timespan.
He said that Iran’s imports from the continent posted a 42 and 21 percent YOY decline in terms of tonnage and value respectively when compared to figures reported in last year’s corresponding period.
Latifi noted that Ghana was the first destination of Iranian exports to Africa from March 21 to October 22, 2023, followed by South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Djibouti, Algeria, Congo, and Ivory Coast.
