Iran has plans to supply half of the household consumers with solar-generated electricity in the middle term, ISNA news agency reported, citing related officials.
The report noted that some 83% of the investments by the world power plants have been made in the area of renewables last year.
It added that the renewable power plants which are providing the cheapest electricity are developing very fast.
Last August, Iran generated a record high in the country’s electricity consumption with a daily consumption of over 73,000 MW.
Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, the spokesman of Iran’s electricity industry, said that the figure marked a 5.7% increase when compared to the previous year’s record high of 69,500 MW.
High energy consumption has caused blackouts during the peak days in Iran.
