Iran has exported as much as $50 million worth of handwoven carpets in the past calendar year to late March, according to the managing director of the Iranian Association of Handwoven Carpets.
Abdollah Bahrami told ISNA that presently more than 10,000 Iranian experts are active in the area of handwoven carpets.
Noting that Iran has long been the leading country in producing handwoven carpets, he said that the industry is suffering from sanctions and also faces many difficulties at home.
Head of Iran National Carpet Center Farahnaz Raafe’ said last year that the Iranian hand-made carpets were exported to 15 different countries.
