UNICEF Iran has published a document setting out 10 principles for businesses about children’s rights.

UNICEF Iran has published a document setting out 10 principles for businesses about children’s rights.

The document, originally issued by UNICEF in March 2023, aims to help support and respect children's rights.

The first principle of this document which is key to other principles, calls on all businesses to meet their responsibility to respect children’s rights and commit to supporting the human rights of children

Children’s rights at workplace

Different businesses are facing with various challenges regarding the rights of children every day and the principles 2, 3, and 4 of this document stresses their duties in this regard noting that they should contribute to the elimination of child labor, including in all business activities and business relationships, provide decent work for young workers, parents and caregivers, and ensure the protection and safety of children in all business activities and facilities. 

Children’s rights at the market

The fifth principle of the UNICEF document requires all the businesses to ensure that products and services are safe, and seek to support children’s rights through them, with the sixth principle urging them to use marketing and advertising that respect and support children’s rights. 

Society and environment

Under the terms of the principles 7-10, all the businesses are needed to respect and support children’s rights in relation to the environment and to land acquisition and use. They also call on the businesses to reinforce community and government efforts to protect and fulfill children’s rights.
