Iran’s food exports reached $1.5 billion in the first eight months of the calendar year (March 20 – November 20, 2024), with the majority of this trade concentrated in three neighboring countries of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, according to a businessman familiar with the matter.
Mohsen Amini, head of the Food Industries Commission at Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture, emphasized the need for diversification of Iran’s exports market.
He underscored the role of policy reforms in bolstering the food industry’s competitiveness, calling for single-rate currency policies which he believed could encourage industries to operate in a more competitive atmosphere.
Amini also highlighted the need for more enhanced cooperation between the private sector and government to help give a boost to the country’s exports.
