Iran eyes boost in construction materials exports, touts global competitiveness

The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce says that Iranian-made construction materials meet international standards and are competitive in global markets, but export growth has been constrained by sanctions and other restrictions.

Speaking on the sidelines of an international building materials exhibition in Tehran on Wednesday, Samad Hassanzadeh said Iranian producers have the capacity to supply products that can rival those from Europe and beyond.

“Exports can generate wealth for the country, create jobs and introduce Iran to global markets,” he said. Hassanzadeh added that Iran’s lower production costs and high-quality output make exports particularly viable to large European markets.

He noted that while limitations such as sanctions have hindered Iran’s international presence, stronger government support to resolve structural problems could enable the industry to expand exports, bring in hard currency and support employment.

According to Hassanzadeh, imports of tiles and ceramics into Iran are now “very low, almost zero,” reflecting the quality of domestic production and growing consumer confidence in locally made products.
