$16.5 billion traded in Iran’s foreign exchange center over seven months

Some $8.72 billion worth of essential goods and pharmaceuticals were imported during the seven-month period.

Iran’s Center for Exchange of Currency and Gold said on Saturday that more than 21,000 merchants carried out transactions worth over US $16.504 billion in its commercial foreign-exchange market during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 – October 22, 2025).

The center said the transactions involved several currencies, including US $9.082 billion, AED 20.451 billion, €683 million, INR 1 billion, KRW 104 million, CNY 7.333 billion, ¥161 million and RUB 2.807 billion.

It added that US $8.72 billion worth of essential goods and pharmaceuticals were imported during the same period. In total, more than US $33.511 billion in foreign currency was allocated to meet import needs, including basic commodities, medicines, industrial products and services.

Of that amount, US $23.871 billion was directed toward commercial and trade imports, with essential goods and medicines ranking second. About US $920 million was provided for service-related foreign-exchange requirements.
