Iran tourism industry seeks urgent support after heavy losses

Iran’s tourism industry is seeking urgent government support after suffering significant losses in recent months, the head of Iran Chamber of Commerce tourism commission said.

Mostafa Mousavi said the tourism sector, despite being hit by multiple shocks following a 12-day war in June and recent nationwide unrest, has received no meaningful support so far, making the preparation of a relief package essential.

Mousavi said he raised the issue last week in talks with Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Minister Reza Salehi Amiri, stressing the need to support private tourism businesses that have incurred heavy losses this year.

According to Mousavi, the minister acknowledged the need for assistance and said some support measures for tourism operators were being followed up.

The head of Iran’s Association of Travel Agencies recently estimated that tourism offices suffered losses of about 10 trillion rials during the protests alone, while the president of the Iranian Hoteliers Association put hotel losses at around 30 trillion rials over the same period.
