The formation of a new government in Iraq presents a strategic opportunity to deepen trade cooperation between Iran’s Khuzestan province and Iraq’s southern provinces, particularly Dhi Qar, according to the head of the Ahvaz Chamber of Commerce.
Shahla Amouri, speaking after a recent political and economic delegation visit to Dhi Qar led by the governor of Khuzestan, said the trip was part of a broader effort to translate political and cultural capital into sustainable, measurable trade partnerships.
“We have close ties with the three southern Iraqi provinces of Basra, Maysan, and Dhi Qar,” Amouri said. “With the administrative changes now taking place in Baghdad, it is essential to elevate these relations to the level of joint economic programs.”
Amouri, also a member of the board of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce, noted that Dhi Qar is recognized as one of Iraq’s agricultural hubs. “This provides a strong foundation for Khuzestan-based companies to operate in areas such as technical and engineering services, agricultural mechanization, processing industries, and the supply of agricultural inputs,” she added.
“Our focus is on close engagement with local traders and businessmen in Dhi Qar to meet the province’s needs across industrial, service, and agricultural sectors,” Amouri said.
