Iran’s annual steel output at 53 million tons

Major Iranian steel mills produced over 53.2 million tons of raw steel and different steel products in the fiscal year to March 20, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

The report says that the country produced 28 million tons of raw steel in the year under review which shows a 2.1% decrease compared to figures from the preceding year and also produced some 25.2 million tons of steel products which has fallen some 2.1% year-on-year.  

The report puts Iran’s annual copper cathode production at 299,000 tons (down 2.8% compared to the preceding year). 

It said that the country has also produced some 571,000 tons of aluminum bars in the one-year period (up 25.1% year-on-year).

Iran’s alumina production grew 0.7% to 230,700 tons with the country’s coal concentrate reducing 12.8% year-on-year to 474,400 tons.

The Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) also released a report early in May which said that a total of 11.69 million tons worth $7.41 billion of steel were exported to 59 countries in the past Iranian fiscal year.

China with 3.54 million tons worth $2.02 billion, accounted for 30.3% of Iran’s total exports in weight and 27.3% in value to top the list of export destinations.

It was followed by Iraq with 1.9 million tons (16.3%) worth $1.26 billion (17%), Indonesia with 1.7 million tons (14.5%) worth $1.09 billion (14.8%), Thailand with 1.17 million tons (10%) worth $750.12 million (10.1%) and the UAE with 724,170 tons (6.2%) worth $544.35 million (7.3%).
