Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Qassemi and his Omani counterpart Saeed Bin Hamoud Al-Mawali meet in Muscat, Oman on May 22, 2022.

Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Qassemi said on Sunday that during his visit to Oman, he and his Omani counterpart Saeed Bin Hamoud Al-Mawali have made different transportation agreements.

Speaking during a speech broadcast on Iranian state TV, Qassemi said that the agreements covered road, rail and sea transportation areas, including launching a shipping line and tourism flights between the two countries.

He said that during a visit to Oman on Monday by President Ebrahim Raeisi, the agreements will be signed by the Iranian president and the Omani top officials.

With these agreements, Oman will join Ashgabat Agreement, the minister said.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi left Tehran for Muscat on Monday morning at the invitation of Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

President Raeisi's visit to Muscat is taking place in line with the new Iranian government’s policy to strengthen all-out cooperation with neighboring countries.

During his stay in the Omani capital, the Iranian president will hold an official meeting with the Omani Sultan at Al Alam Palace where the two sides are scheduled to sign several cooperation documents.

Meeting with Omani businesses is also among plans of the Iranian president's day-long visit.

Travel of President Raeisi to Oman is the first one taking place during the tenure of the new Omani Sultan since January 2020 when the former Sultan Qaboos passed away.
