Regular flights between the Iranian and Tajik capitals have been resumed after they were suspended in February 2020 due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19, according to an official with Tajikistan Civil Aviation Agency.

The official told Tajikistan’s Asia-Plus news agency that Iranian flag carrier Iran Air will launch Dushanbe-Tehran-Dushanbe flights twice a week.

Tajikistan’s Somon Air is also likely to carry out flights between the two capitals, the official said.

Iran’s Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Qassemi had earlier said that the first flight between Tehran and Dushanbe will resume on June 13.

The minister said that the number of flights will gradually increase to four flights a week.

Asia-Plus wrote that Iran is one of the most popular destinations for Tajik people as the two nations share historical, language and cultural common grounds.
