The volume of trade between Iran and Qatar is expected to grow to as much as $3 billion by the end of the Iranian calendar year to March 2026, according to an Iranian trade official.

Farzad Piltan, the director of the West Asian Bureau of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO), said that bilateral transactions between Iran and Qatar would include exports, imports, joint investments, transit, re-exports, and joint production.

He expressed hope that Tehran and Doha would witness an enhancement of trade relations after a recession in relations due to COVID restrictions and Western sanctions on Iran.

Negotiations were also held between authorities from Iran and Qatar last year when the two sides discussed facilitating marine transportation by making use of the potentials of the private sector, the official said.

“We are planning for presence of (Iranian) private sector companies in the Qatari international exhibitions and more active marketing in the country.”

Piltan also referred to opening an Iranian trade center in Doha in the past few months which he said would pave the way for the presence of the Iranian companies in the neighboring country.
