Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) hosts a conference on trade potentials with Bangladesh in its headquarter in Tehran on July 2, 2023.

Diplomats and businesspeople from Iran and Bangladesh have underlined the need for getting more familiar with trade chances of each other, blaming insignificant trade exchanges on lack of knowledge about the trade potentials of one another.

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) hosted a conference in its headquarter in Tehran on Sunday which focused exploring ways for enhancement of trade with Bangladesh.

The conference was attended by Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Masour Chavoshi, Bangladeshi Ambassador to Iran Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, as well as a large number of businesspeople from the two countries.

Speaking during the conference, Niloofar Assadi, the caretaker of the international affairs of Iran Chamber of Commerce, regretted that despite the high potentials for cooperation between Iran and Bangladesh, the volume of bilateral trade is not satisfactory.

Assadi said that banking and transportation hurdles and the lack of knowledge of the businesspeople on the both sides about the potentials for bilateral trade capacities are among the main obstacles hindering trade between Iran and Bangladesh.

She added that the Iran-Bangladesh Joint Committee of Commerce and a mirror committee of commerce in Bangladesh will be formed soon.

In the meantime, the Bangladeshi ambassador to Tehran said that his country’s economy has registered 7% growth over the past 20 years and it has been thriving even despite the coronavirus outbreak.

He added that Bangladesh is ready to provide the Iranian businesspeople with different facilities, including lower tariffs.

The Iranian ambassador to Bangladesh also addressed the meeting where he said the trade exchanges between Tehran and Dakar are not satisfactory.

Chavoshi said that the volume of trade between Tehran and Bangladesh is insignificance while there are many agreements between the two countries, including among others on avoiding double taxation.
