Iran private sector stresses promotion of smart transportation

Behnam Faramarzian, the director of international transportation and TIR carnet department of Iran Chamber of Commerce, has said that in order to strengthen its international trade, Iran has to give a boost to smart transportation.

Behnam Faramarzian, the director of international transportation and TIR carnet department of Iran Chamber of Commerce, has said that in order to strengthen its international trade, Iran has to give a boost to smart transportation.

Faramarzian made the remarks in a joint conference with the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

He said that signing a trilateral agreement between Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, Iran Chamber of Commerce, and the IRU indicates the determination of the Iranian government and the private sector to upgrade the infrastructures needed for the international transportation.

Faramarzian also hailed the IRU training courses held in Iran as a major step in the path of progress of the country’s international transportation relying on the international standards.  

He said that these training courses would make the Iranian transportation managers and professional drivers more familiar with the international conventions.

Also addressing the meeting, IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto said that the IRU intends to turn Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization into a regional modal in terms of professional competence in road transportation and providing support for green transportation.

He said that road transportation faced tough days over the past four years which began with the global outbreak of COVID-19 followed by destabilizing effects of political tensions and military conflicts.

The official added that IRU is fully committed to UN measures for road safety and preventing 50% of the deaths and injuries caused by road accidents by 2030.
