Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji has voiced Iran’s readiness for participation in refining projects in Nicaragua.

Owji made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran on Monday with Nicaragua's Foreign Minister Denis Moncada.

He referred to his recent visit to Nicaragua where he had had negotiations with the country’s minister of energy over exports of fuel and oil products and techno-engineering services.

The minister also said that the Iranian companies are highly capable of constructing and overhauling refineries and can participate in refining projects in Nicaragua.

Iran has launched El Palito refinery in Venezuela as its first-ever overseas refining project.

The country is also in talks with Syria to start overseas refining in Homs refinery, an official familiar with the talks said earlier this month.

He added that Iran also plans to start operation in Banias refinery of Syria after the completion of the Homs refinery.
