A total of 4.4 million passengers were transported via railroads in Iran during the first two months of the current Iranian year (started March 21) to register a 63% increase compared with the corresponding period of last year, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported.
A 10-year record in rail transportation was set during the first two months of the fiscal 2019-20 when 8.4 million passengers commuted by railroads, the report said.
The ministry also reported that a total of 8 million tons of freight were transited via railroad during the same two months.
A 10-year high in rail freight transportation was recorded during the first two months of the fiscal 2020-21 with 8.5 million tons.
A total of 293,000 tons of goods were transited by Iran’s rail network during the two months ending May 21.
