Head of Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization said that the volume of transit goods passing through the Iranian soil hit 9.3 million tons during the past Iranian calendar year to March 21.

The figure shows a 1% YOY increase and is also up 42% compared to pre-pandemic figures, Daryoush Amani said, according to a Monday report by IRNA news agency.

He said that Bazargan terminal at the joint border with Turkey and the port of Shahid Rajaei were Iran’s most active transit terminals over the one-year time span with 16 and 15 percent YOY increases respectively.

Despite Iran emerging from the coronavirus pandemic last year and the removal of the most part of COVID restrictions both across the region and globally, some regional and global challenges were hindering Iran from reaching its goals in the area of transit, the official stated.

He, however, noted that a 4% growth in the transit truck traffic in a situation where most countries were facing an employment crisis in the field of international transportation was indicative of the importance of Iran's transit routes in the East to West and North to South corridors compared to other alternative routes in the region.
