Iran’s COVID-19 cases surpass 3 million

Iran on Thursday reported 12,398 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 3,003,112.

Iran on Thursday reported 12,398 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 3,003,112.

The pandemic has so far claimed 81,672 lives in Iran, up by 153 in the past 24 hours, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education said.

A total of 2,612,091 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 3,549 remain in intensive care units, according to the ministry.

By Thursday, 4,289,395 people have received coronavirus vaccines in the country, with 742,817 taking both doses.

Iran reported first cases of the disease in February 2020.
