Gholam Hossein Jamili, a board member of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA), said on Monday that Iran’s active presence in Expo 2020 Dubai is a unique chance for the country to introduce its capacities.

Jamili, also the ICCIMA director for international strategic affairs, told Iran Chamber newsroom that the Expo should not be seen as a short-term chance. He said that Iran’s presence in the event is rather of special long-term significance.

The event is being held in the Middle East after 170 years, Jamili said, predicting that it will take 200 years for such event to be held near Iran once again.

Noting that the Expo attracts a wide range of audience, he said that university students and professors, the businesspersons and even the ordinary people have to take the chance of the event to update their knowledge and understanding of the world.

Trade partners of Iran are usually surprised when they see a highly-advanced Iranian product in an international exhibition as they do not expect such achievements of Iran, he said, adding that the Expo provides a chance for Iran to correct this wrong image.

Expo 2020 in Dubai runs from October 1, 2021 until March 31, 2022.

The event was originally scheduled for October 20, 2020 – April 10, 2021. It was however postponed to a year later due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Arab Emirates.

The Expo has been designed in an area of some 438 hectares two times bigger that Milan Expo.

Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first World Expo ever hosted in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region and the largest event ever held in the Arab World.

The six-month extravaganza of culture, architecture, entertainment, global cuisine, and more, will attract more than 200 organizations including 192 nations, each with their own pavilion, a World Expo first.

Through its theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Expo 2020 will provide a platform to encourage creativity, innovation and collaboration across its subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
