Iran has exported some $64 million worth of hand-woven carpets in the fiscal year to March 2022, according to the head of Iran National Carpet Center.

Speaking in a press conference on Saturday, Farahnaz Rafe’ said that the Iranian carpet exports shows an 11% increase in terms of weight compared to figures from the preceding year.

The figure, however, posts a 10% decline year-on-year in value terms.

Rafe’ said that the fall in the value of Iran’s carpet exports was mainly due to problems for the return of foreign exchanges coming from the exports which she said have led the Iranian merchants to choose different ways of exports.

A total of $870 million worth of carpets were exported all across the globe in 2020, Rafe’ said, noting that India was the main exporter of hand-woven carpet with $278 million worth of exports followed by Iran with $72 million woth of exports.

She ruled out news reports about Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan surpassing Iran in hand-woven carpet exports, saying that Nepal, Pakistan and China are the third to fifth world exporters of hand-woven carpet with 51, 50 and 31 million dollar worth of exports respectively.
