Major Iranian automaker Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) has begun the exports of two products to neighboring Armenia.

The first consignment of IKCO products, including Tara and Dena passenger cars, were sent to Armenia following a recent visit to the country by the Iranian company’s managing general.

Armenia is considered as the gateway for Iranian products to other Eurasian Economic Union member countries.

IKCO also plans to export some products of its major subsidiaries – ISACO and Iran Khodro Diesel – to Armenia.

During a meeting in Yerevan earlier this month, Alireza Peimanpak, Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization and a Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, proposed setting up an Iranian auto production line in Armenia which was welcomed by his Armenian counterpart.

The Iranian deputy minister said that an Iranian automaker is eager to produce cars in Armenia.

Peimanpak referred to Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and said that such an auto production project could pave the way for auto exports to Eurasian markets and benefit both Iran and Armenia.
