Iran exported over $80 million worth of clothing products over the past Iranian calendar year to March 21, according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.

Mohsen Gorgi, the director for the Bureau of Textile and Clothing of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, said that the Iranian clothing exports are mainly destined for neighboring countries, including Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member countries.

Noting that the Ministry of Industry is seeking to pave the way for further exports of Iranian clothing to Russia, the official said that Russia is potentially a proper destination for Iranian clothing.

He added that as a supportive measure for the industry, the government aims to keep tariffs for imports of clothing raw materials as low as 1%.

Some 700 workshops are active in producing clothing in Iran providing jobs for 1 million workers, the official said.
