Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Iran Abdullah bin Saud Al-Anzi says the embassy tries to form a supreme council of Iranian and Saudi businesspeople.

Al-Anzi made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday with President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Hossein Selahvarzi.

The visit to the Iran Chamber of Commerce headquarters by the Saudi ambassador was the first official visit of his tenure in Tehran after he submitted his credentials to President Raeisi a day earlier.

Speaking during the meeting, the Iran Chamber of Commerce president said that Saudi Arabia provides the best route for Iran’s access to the African markets while Iran can also facilitate Saudi access to Eurasian countries via the International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC).

He added that the expansion of cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia would not be possible without devising a mechanism for using national currencies in bilateral trade.

Selahvarzi said that the Iran Chamber of Commerce aims to introduce more plans for cooperation with Saudi Arabia in international organizations such as the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) and the BRICS bloc of emerging economies where both Iran and Saudi Arabia are member countries.

He called for more efforts of the Saudi embassy to help establish relations between the chambers of commerce of the two countries.

In the meantime, the Saudi ambassador said that private sector is of prime importance for Riyadh.

Al-Anzi referred to his country’s Vision 2030 which he said prioritizes the role of the private sector, stressing his intention to give a boost to relations between the chambers of commerce of the two countries.

Underlining his intention to form a supreme council of Iranian and Saudi businesspeople, the ambassador said that the whole bilateral trade, including joint projects, will be carried out under this supreme council.
