Iran’s agrifood exports hit $6.3 billion in one year

Iran has exported as much as $6.3 billion worth of animal, fishery, agricultural and food products in the past calendar year to late March, according to the spokesman for the country’s House of Industry, Mine and Trade.

Rouhollah Latifi said that the figure indicates a 20.5% hike when compared to that of a year earlier.

He added the Iran exported more than 8.8 million tons of animal, fishery, agricultural, greenhouse, dairy and food products in the one-year timespan which marks a 12.2% year-on-year increase.

The spokesman also added that as much as 136.4 million tons of non-oil goods, valued at more than $49 billion, were exported from the country last year.

He went on to say that the 15 neighboring countries were responsible for receiving some 87 and 80 percent of the Iranian exports in terms of tonnage and value respectively.

Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Pakistan and Afghanistan were the top five destinations for Iran’s exports of agrifood products over the past year, Latifi said.
