Iran says it is ready to work with Iran on devising a 10-year roadmap to expand economic relations between the two countries.
The announcement was made by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani during his meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York.
Rouhani also emphasized that Iran and Japan need to work together to accelerate the implementation of agreements that they have signed to facilitate banking transactions between the two countries.
He added that it is necessary for the Japanese banks to do more to provide the facilities that are required to further activate economic relations between Iran and Japan, Shana reported.
Rouhani said the current relations between the two countries stand at a satisfactory level, stressing that the removal of sanctions against Iran has already provided an opportunity for both countries to enhance their economic relations.
Abe, for his part, expressed hope that the economic relations with Iran would reach the highest level possible in the near future.
He said Japan would support the expansion of banking relations with Iran as well as the cooperation of the two countries’ companies.
Abe further emphasized that he would order the proceedings to start for devising a 10-year roadmap for expanding economic relations with Iran.
Japan’s prime minister was to visit Iran in August in what was seen as the first such visit in nearly four decades.
However, his visit was postponed by Tokyo to what officials said would be a “more appropriate time”.
Accordingly, Japan’s Kyodo News Agency quoted unnamed government sources as saying that Abe will wait until after the US presidential election in November to decide over his Iran trip plans.
